Tarantula 3D Printer info: 

The Tarantula is based on the Prusa i3. The Prusa i3 is a proven design with tens of thousands of users around the world. You now have a unique opportunity to get your very own Tarantula (Seventh Generation) 3D printer.

All parts of this printer are Open Source and are part of the RepRap project. There are no hard to find parts so in the event you ever require parts these are readily available!

The Dual-Head Pro E3D Bowden Extruder design is based on the E3D V6 design with modifications for dual hot-end installation on a single cooling block. This is to reduce the size of the extruder assembly and allows more X-Axis printing width overall as opposed to side mounted extruders that take up more of the X-Axis space. 

Each extruder hot-end is fed by its own feeder assembly to control the filament. The FLEX feeder design allows working with the FLEX filament types which require a different method of tension on the filament.

One very nice use of a Dual-Head printer is in the printing of objects that require dissoluble filament during printing - this printer allows you to use one filament for printing and a second to act as a dissolved filler. When the print job is complete then you simply dissolve away the filler filament and have a 3D object with internal structures that move, slide or operate in some manner without having to build the object in multiple pieces that have to be assembled. Pretty neat huh?!

In order to make use of a Dual Head printer however you will need a slicer program that is capable of printing multi-head 3D objects. Without a slicer program the printer will act as any other single-head printer would.

The Tarantula uses all metal parts in its frame construction – extruded black anodised aluminium is used for the frame material with laser cut acrylic plates for the assembly and ball bearing V-Groove wheels for smooth and quite operation.

There are no smooth-rod, linear bearing issues you may have found with other printers within this price range! The only acrylic parts to be found are the clear cover plates for the electronics, the wheel plates and the print bed mounting plate.

The STANDARD aluminium print bed plate is 200x200mm - the travel for the print bed plate is limited by the physical dimensions of the frame itself and is approximately 200-220mm for the X-Axis (side to side) and approximately 200-270mm for the Y-Axis (front to back). The travel for the Z-Axis is approximately 200mm (up and down).

Distances may vary marginally depending on assembly technique.

The LARGE aluminium print bed plate is 200x280mm - the travel for the print bed plate is limited by the physical dimensions of the frame itself and is approximately 220mm for the X-Axis (side to side) and approximately 270mm for the Y-Axis (front to back). The travel for the Z-Axis is approximately 200mm (up and down). 

Distances may vary marginally depending on assembly technique.

The LARGE BED print bed is 200x280mm versus the 200x200mm in the STANDARD BED model.

The AUTO-LEVELLING feature uses a proximity sensor and modified firmware to detect the aluminium print bed where as the standard version uses a micro-switch to detect the end of travel for the Z-Axis movement (vertical limits).

The Auto-Levelling feature allows for automatic adjustments between prints. This is so you do not need to re-adjust the print bed each time a print is performed. Changes in temperature and removing a print from the print bed may cause a slight change to the Z-Axis on the bed. Auto-Levelling eliminates any re-adjustment saving you time and frustration!

This is a DIY KIT (Unassembled). All you need is included in the kit so you can get started straight away!

Whilst the Tarantula is relatively simple to assemble and set-up it does take time and patience. It is also important that you have a basic understanding of mechanical assembly techniques and electrical wiring.

Under no circumstances should you handle wiring or the power supply when this machine is plugged in and/or turned on. One should maintain a healthy respect for electricity at all times.

 To avoid burns do not touch the heated print bed when operating and in particular the hot-end.

For younger users, (below 18yrs) we would strongly recommend an adult be present to supervise during assembly/set-up and also during operation.
